BS ECE team bags 3rd place in 11th SWEEP innovations awards
A team of BS ECE students and faculty once again received honors during the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) Innovations Awards held February 13 at Raffles Hotel, Makati City.
BatStateU’s entry entitled #BAYANIHAN won 3rd in the said competition. #BAYANIHAN is a cloud – based application for the local government units. The team is composed of 4th Year BS ECE Students namely Aldrin Abacan, Donna Rei Punzalan, Elezar Garcia and Ralph Brando Bernabe. Engr. Albertson D. Amante served as the team’s faculty mentor.
The team received plaques and cash prize of Php 100,000.00. An equivalent amount in the form of a grant will be given to the school for the improvement of the system for possible commercialization.
With the theme, “Building Cloud-based Communities”, Smart’s SWEEP Awards continues to provide college students with the platform to develop and create innovative mobile applications that provide solutions to existing consumer pain points using mobile and Cloud technologies.

74 companies attends BatStateU Job Placement Office fair
Over 1300 job-seekers participated in the March 2015 Job Fair organized by the Batangas State University Job Placement Office, in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Batangas Province at the Gov. Feliciano Leviste Memorial Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, March 24.
The participants were composed of BatStateU graduating students, alumni and other interested applicants from outside the University.
“We organized this event because our University, through the Job Placement Office would like to provide employment opportunities to our graduating students, as well as our alumni,” Job Placement Office Assistant Director Gerard Remo said.
Seventy-four local companies and agencies joined in the job fair. These companies came from manufacturing, education, service, business process outsourcing (BPO), construction, information and technology, banking and healthcare industries.
An estimated of 5,200 job vacancies were offered during the fair. The participating companies made almost 1400 interviews to over 3000 qualified applicants. Meanwhile, 26 applicants were hired immediately in the fair.

47th Commencement Exercises Goes Livestream
To cater a larger audience, Batangas State University launched the livestream of the 47th Commencement Exercises.
The livestreaming started to cover the second day of the University graduation rites, April 7. According to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Office, the next graduation rites on April 8 in BatStateU ARASOF NasugbuCampus , as well as the ceremonies on April 9 in the Main Campus I and BatStateU JPLPC Malvar and April 10 in Main Campus I will still be covered via livestream.
The real-time coverage of the commencement exercises can be accessed through the University website www.batstate-u.edu.ph.
“This project can be helpful to the relatives of the graduates who cannot witness the graduation ceremonies in person,” Director for Public Relations Prof. Vanessah Castillo said. “Their relatives abroad can still see through the internet their sons and daughters receive their diplomas,” Prof. Castillo added.
Vice President for Administration and External Affairs Dr. Jessie Montalbo, through the coordination of the ICT Office initiated the live stream coverage of the commencement exercises.
BatStateU GAD conducts series of fora
To celebrate the Women’s Month, the Gender and Development (GAD) Office of the University conducted related activities on selected days this month.
The office held a series of fora that focused on the various roles played by women in society. Dubbed as ‘Babae at Mga Talakayan,’ the said series started with a forum on Women in Community Leadership, Power and Decision-making on March 10, 1p.m. at the Amphitheater in CITE building, Main Campus I. Batangas City Councilor Aileen Arriola-Montalbo, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. Program Manager Olivia Mamisay, and Coalition Against Trafficking in Women in Asia Pacific (CATW-AP) Education, Training and Organizational Development Offiver Clydie Pasia were the panel members in the said forum.
